India Studies Center, Ubon Ratchathani University
The India Studies Center of Ubon Ratchathani University was initially established as the India Studies Group in 2020. It was officially recognized as an academic service center in 2023 and subsequently elevated to a Center of Excellence in 2024. The center's mission is to serve as a hub for the study, development, and dissemination of multidisciplinary knowledge on Contemporary India through research, academic work, teaching and learning, academic service activities, cultural preservation, and other initiatives under the vision of “Indian Wisdom of the Mekong Region.” It also acts as a hub for collaborations with domestic and international networks and conducts activities to foster international relations.
Key Features of the Academic Service Center
- The first and only academic service center specializing in Indian Studies in Northeast Thailand.
- Focuses on creating knowledge and innovations in Contemporary India, integrating expertise from over 30 researchers and academics across various disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, health sciences, and science and technology.
- A member of prominent networks, such as the Indian Studies Network of Thailand, the Asian Studies Network of Thailand, the BIMSTEC Policy Think Tanks Network, and the ASEAN-India Think Tank Network.
Outstanding Achievements and Services
- Disseminated over 30 knowledge and innovation including books and articles
- organized more than 70 academic service activities aimed at raising awareness and promoting Thailand-India relations, with over 10,000 participants.
- Supported the organization of four Indian cultural and art festivals and participated in cultural processions during the temporary enshrinement of the Buddha’s relics and the relics of Arahants in Ubon Ratchathani Province with a million visitors and 1.5 billion revenues for the province in 4 days.
- Developed and disseminated e-learning resources and learning materials on Contemporary India and BIMSTEC.
- Created the “India Corner,” a learning hub for Indian Studies, at the Learning Resources Center of Ubon Ratchathani University.
- Received the Outstanding Academic Service Center Award from Ubon Ratchathani University.
